Produce velvet that maximizes profitability per head rather than per single stick, and manage operations with a focus on those animals.
Velvets with large heads - typically heavier and thicker, such as NT grades - often command lower market value due to their less market-friendly tip shape. In addition, overgrown velvets and certain hard velvets are valued significantly less than standard velvets because of increased calcification. At our appointed approved facility, we cut velvets to a specified level and process either the trimmed portions or entire pieces to create added value. The resulting profits are shared with growers. We believe this approach can make a meaningful contribution to improving your velveting returns.
NT-grade velvets with large heads can be cut along the Line a and Line b, and the trimmed portions can be processed to add value in New Zealand, thereby increasing the total return. Although the extent may not be as great as with NT grade, This method can also be applied to SAT-grade velvets, cutting along Line a to increase the total return
OG or certain hard velvets that meet acceptable specifications can be cut at Line A or Line B, and either the whole piece or the trimmed lower portion can be processed in New Zealand to increase your total return.
Some Spike velvets, classified as Spike OG or hard velvets, can be cut along the specific line indicated on the left. The upper portion of the cut can be sold fresh, while the lower portion - or the entire piece - can be processed in New Zealand. This approach can generate significantly higher returns compared to selling them as single sticks.
Diversify the range of markets in which your velvet can be sold, from fresh whole sticks to finished products that use velvet as a raw material.
We create added value by processing undervalued velvets and their parts into dried sliced velvets and finished nutritional products, and we share the profits through a cooperative partnership with you.
Sliced velvet is the most widely sold form of velvet antler to end users, and in certain cases, processing the whole velvet or a portion of it in New Zealand can be more beneficial than selling it fresh. It may also significantly assist producers in gaining a clearer understanding of the actual market value of their velvet antler........ Learn more
